Episode Notes

In this episode of Healed. Whole. Called., Wendy sits down with Jen McClure — wife, mom, Grammy, author, speaker, and mental wellness coach — for a raw and hope-filled conversation about depression, trauma, and the redemptive power of God.

Jen shares that her story didn’t begin with her own breakdown, but generations earlier. Abandonment, emotional absence, and unresolved trauma flowed quietly through her family line, shaping beliefs about safety, worth, and trust long before she had language for them. As a child, Jen learned how to perform wellness while carrying deep wounds — wounds that were compounded by sexual assault, emotional isolation, and later, a marriage deeply impacted by undiagnosed PTSD.

On the outside, Jen appeared successful. On the inside, she was unraveling. Years of unprocessed trauma, disordered eating, financial strain, caregiving demands, and chronic stress eventually led to a complete mental collapse. For four years, Jen describes being unable to function — gripped by depression, panic, and the belief that God had abandoned her and she was beyond redemption.

But God was not absent.

Through persistent prayer, the unwavering love of her mother, faithful community, counseling, and the power of Scripture, Jen began to experience restoration. One pivotal moment came when a friend sent her a song rooted in 1 Corinthians 13, reframing her understanding of love. That biblical definition became a filter — helping her recognize what was not from God, confront spiritual warfare, and reclaim her voice.

Healing did not just restore Jen — it saved her marriage, rewrote her family legacy, and broke generational patterns of depression, silence, and despair. What once nearly ended her life became the foundation of her calling.

Today, Jen helps others walk out of darkness through coaching, teaching, and her book Wisdom from the Wilderness. Her story is living proof that God restores what the enemy tries to steal — and that no season of suffering is wasted when surrendered to Him.

This episode is for the listener who feels numb, overwhelmed, or afraid to ask for help. It is an invitation to stop isolating, to seek godly support, and to believe — even faintly — that healing is possible.
